we can't doubt that saliva is chiefly water just like our blood is. it is thicker because in addition to water, it has mucus which lubricates food, it has salivary amylase (ptyalin) which starts the digestion of starch and if you're a secretor, it has soluble blood group antigens in it. it does have some antimicrobial properties because it has lysozyme which disintegrates bacterial cell walls. in addition to all of those, it also has some electrolyte and cells of the oral cavity (ex. cheek lining epithelium) in it too

Wow, Asmira. Thanks for the posting. I think the info is a bit too overwhelming ... too many difficult words. But, I think it is safe to say that saliva is mainly made of water and some mucus for digestion.
Saliva is produced in your salivary glands. It is excreted when they are stimulated by food, odors, or any drinks.
